Sadlers Wells East Opens to the Public

7 February 2025

After five years, east London’s newest performing arts centre has officially opened its doors to the public.

Sadlers Wells East is an impressive and beautiful cultural heritage space. It encompasses a 500-seat theatre, six rehearsal studios, and public spaces to cater to the retail and student foot traffic of the area.

Appointed in 2019 the Kilnbridge brief was a mix mixture of traditional FRC works and structural steel. The team was tasked with delivering post tension beams, precast slabs, structural toppings, reinforcement, and had design responsibilities for steel-to-steel connections, and steel-to-concrete connections throughout the building.

The project team had to overcome the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, and its second order impacts to supply chains and labour constraints, and meet the high expectations of the architects and client to ensure the vision for this incredible venue was fully realised.

The theatre’s completion marks a significant milestone in Kilnbridge’s journey, showcasing the group’s ability to deliver complex, high-quality projects with high profiles in the cultural heritage space. As the company looks to the future, the lessons learned and the relationships built during the Sadler’s Wells project is a defining achievement. As Project Manager Hemang Upadhyay reflects, “This project showed what I’m capable of personally, and what Kilnbridge is capable of as a team. It’s very close to my heart.”
